Who we are

Pacific peoples will be significant contributors to the future labour market and in the shaping of the jobs of the future.  They will be significant contributors to the future labour market and in the shaping of the jobs of the future but whether they are positioned to take advantage of what the future has to offer remains to be seen.

The Cause Collective (TCC) is one of three organisations working to support Pacific peoples into pathways that will lead to the jobs of the future. Our work in Matangi Fou – The Auckland Pacific Skills Shift shows that there are two main challenges when it comes to Pacific peoples preparing for the Future of Work.

They are:

  1. Workers are not aware of what the jobs of the future will be, or how the future of work relates to their current reality.
  2. Employers only have capacity to do what is necessary and sufficient for this point in time, with little time and resource to plan for the future.

If we continue as we are now, Pacific communities will not be able to actively participate in, or benefit from what the Future of Work has to offer.

Pacific peoples need to be intentionally supported to participate in the Future of Work.

We have partnered with communities and business leaders to deliver a set of breakthrough initiatives to support the Future of Work to create conditions for transformation in the labour market for Pacific workers and their families.

We believe this can be achieved through a Pacific workforce that actively participates in quality employment opportunities in new and emergent industries particularly in  the following areas: creative, digital and technology but also in existing areas like manufacturing, construction and health.

Pacific people have the right to flourish. Unravelling inequities and overcoming obstacles to success are key elements of Matangi Fou.

Pacific peoples’ participation in the Future of Work can only occur when they are viewed as partners in building Aotearoa New Zealand’s economic future and are included early in planning for this.

Matangi Fou is currently made up of the different programmes

  • Bridging Opportunities, Skills and Success (BOSS) programme
  • Micro credentialling
  • South Auckland Creative & Tech Hub (SACTH)

TCC partnered with the Ministry for Business Innovation and Employment’s (MBIE) to deliver Matangi Fou as part of the Alo Vaka Auckland Pacific Skills Shift Initiative.
